There was an article on Mike's EWI setup in a recent issue of "Virtual Instruments Magazine" (I didn't even know this mag existed! I just subscribed.) Check out this EWI info that George Whitty provided.

Final EWI Config

Computer:

  • Macintosh iMac: Currently Mike is using iMac because it is powerful and effective. When he starts to travel again, he will probably purchase a fully loaded Macbook Pro since it is easier to carry.

Software:

  • Logic: George Whitty created an environment in Logic for Mike that allows for chord rotation, looping on the fly, sustain and release both globally and individually, and the easy ability to create key groups. Logic is the main control software. I use many of the plug-ins that come with Logic, especially the EXS 24 for samples, and the ES2 for analog synth sounds.
  • Reason: Mike says about Reason: "it is a fantastic source of sounds both analog and sampled, and it's very stable and reliable."
  • Kontakt: This audio plug-in (thru Logic) "is perfect for the EWI with it's unique programming flexibility." according to Mike.

Hardware: Mike was using both the newest AKAI EWI 4000 and the RAD model of EWI made for him by Nyle Steiner (pictured at right)
